Vilsack Out

"It's all about the Benjamins." - Sean Puff Daddy P. Diddy Colmes

This just in: One of my top 10 Democrats, former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, has pulled out of the race for President. His reason? He can't keep up with the frontrunners in fundraising. Indeed, he can't come anywhere close to the frontrunners.

This development shows why each party's Big Three will continue to widen the gap. Money goes to the frontrunners. Frontrunners use this money to expand their lead. Then they get more money.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a cycle.

Effect of drop out: Who will Vilsack campaign for? The crucial Iowa Caucus is 11 months away, and Edwards, Clinton, and Obama could all use Vilsack to swing the state in their favor. Having momentum heading into the Nevada and New Hampshire primaries is high-priority, and an Iowa victory is the giver of such momentum. Therefore, while I don't expect a behind-the-scenes VP deal to be brokered, I do expect a favor or two done for Vilsack in exchange for his support.
